2003 Boat Parade

2003 4th of July Boat Parade
The weatherman was right for a change, clear skies by 9:00 am and sunny the rest of the
day. Things looked pretty wet at 6:00 am but the weather channel told a different story.
The parade got off to a good start with the Statue of Liberty, Sue Edwards and family,
leading the way.
This year we had volunteer judges set up just north of the Fireman’s
Lodge. Art (Craig) Johnson and Gary Johnson, sons of Natalie Johnson, were looking for
a first place winner in three categories. Best-decorated boat went to Wayne and Jan
Siffing on Fireman’s Lodge Road SW. Best-decorated pontoon went to Lex and Patty
Wilkinson on The Narrows Drive. Best-decorated dock went to Richard and Diane
Nelson on Bradford Bay Road SW.
An unofficial count of boats in this year’s parade
was in the 30 to 40 range. I want to thank everyone who participated in this, the 2nd
annual, 4th of July Boat Parade. A special thanks to the judges whose colorful costumes,
Craig dressed as a patriotic North Dakota cowboy and Gary dressed as Uncle Sam, added
something extra to the event.
